The cheaper accommodation is mostly found around the general airport section of Lombok’s capital, Mataram or on the Gilis [the three small islands off the north-west coast of Lombok].
The major hotels are mostly found in Senggigi, the tourist centre of Lombok. A relaxed lifestyle, white sand beaches without dangerous waves for children and the weaker swimmers, a gentle but interesting selection of restaurants and night time entertainment makes Senggigi the choice of many.
The large hotels include the Senggigi Beach Resort and their adjoining luxury Pool Villa Club, Sheraton Resort and The Santosa. A few kilometres north of Senggigi is Mangsit, a less developed stretch of coast with white sand beaches. The Holiday Resort [ex Holiday Inn] is found here as well as Puri Mas, an unique boutique hotel with traditional Indonesian designed rooms beginning with amazing hand carved doors. Qunci Villas is the beginning of the new upmarket boutique accommodation, with very stylish small seaside suites and large mountain top villas. Pool Villas have recently been added to both Puri Mas and Qunci.
The Oberoi at Lombok’s north-west tip is at the top-end of the luxury stakes and has rcenetly been joined with the upmarket Tugu on an adjacent finger of land, next to Lombok's premier golf course.
The Novotel down in Kuta, South Lombok, looks after the hoards of surfers who are attracted to that area. As this is close to Lombok's new International Airport, opening late 2009, much more development is expected in this area.
The larger hotels in Central Mataram are mainly for the domestic and business traveler, although there are also many budget options in this area.
